Oh Mallard, how do you do it? It’s minus ten degrees out there, half the River Spree is frozen and all of Treptower Park is buried in snow. And yet you waddle on the ice floes and slip into the freezing water as if it were the height of Summer. Tubau and I had enthusiastically ventured out to the park to photograph these admirable ducks as well as the dramatic geometry of cracked ice and the startling red of berries against white snow. But a Malaysian and Spaniard admit defeat very quickly in the face of a continental Winter and before long, we were ensconced in Burger King. ω
