Gartenzwerge are supposed to be prolific in the quintessential-German-prolific sense. However, I found them surprisingly difficult to locate in my admittedly not-very-comprehensive search for them. Then I came across this Schrebergarten in Kreuzberg. After securing permission to photograph the numerous carefully-posed clay figures – and there were many – I was asked, “Are you from Thailand?” Turns out the German owner is married to a Thai and escapes each Winter to the tropics. ω
